Calgary, Alberta – Steven Normand, a 30-year-old pitcher for STK Fastball, has become a beacon of inspiration for young boys aspiring to excel in men’s fastpitch. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Steven’s journey in the sport began at the tender age of five, and his passion has only grown stronger over the years.
Steven’s introduction to fastpitch came from his father, a high-level player and dedicated coach. “My dad has been the biggest influence on my fastpitch career,” Steven recalls. “He played the game at a high level and has coached my brother and me since we started playing as kids. His dedication and passion for the sport have always inspired me.”

The first team Steven played for was the Calgary Rockies in 1999. His early start and strong family support laid a solid foundation for his future success. Steven believes that mastering the fundamentals is crucial for any fastpitch player. “There is always room to improve on the fundamentals of the game. It’s important to get reps in during the season and work on these skills in the offseason. Consistent practice and dedication to mastering the basics are essential.”
One of Steven’s favorite memories in fastpitch is winning the junior nationals in Irma as the host team and having the honor of representing Canada. This achievement is a testament to his hard work and commitment to the sport.
Looking ahead to the 2024 Surrey ISC Men’s Tournament, Steven expects a highly competitive event. “I think it will be a competitive tournament at a great facility,” he says. His enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament reflects his enduring love for the game and his desire to compete at the highest level.
Fastpitch has given Steven more than just trophies and accolades. “It has given me the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world and has provided me with many friendships,” he shares. The sport has enriched his life in countless ways, offering experiences and connections that extend far beyond the field.
For young players dreaming of a successful fastpitch career, Steven offers valuable advice: “Watch some of the more experienced players and see how they do things on the field. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn from them.” His words of wisdom emphasize the importance of learning from others and continuously striving to improve.
